Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment

Hillcrest Youth Services offers the only outpatient substance abuse program for adolescents in the southwestern region of Indiana that incorporates the evidenced-based Seven Challenges program. The participants are referred to this program through the Department of Child Services or the Juvenile Probation Department.

Hillcrest does not accept private insurance but arrangements could be made for services through a sliding scale fee. This program not only focuses on drug/alcohol use but it also addresses co-occurring disorders which are usually present with adolescent substance use. The Seven Challenges is a decision-making model that matches the stage of change of the adolescent.

Successful completion of the program will be determined by the participant’s ability to:

  • Show improved decision-making skills
  • Identify personal reasons for substance use
  • Develop healthy alternatives to substance use
  • Show a willingness to open up honestly about past and current substance use
  • Display a better understanding of the risks related to drug and alcohol use

The participant will be required to attend the Seven Challenges group Monday-Wednesday. Participants will meet with a Licensed Social Worker on a regular basis for more in-depth work in the Seven Challenges journal as well as addressing individual needs. Family therapy will also be offered to the resident and their family throughout the program.

If referred through the court system, the outpatient program requires weekly drug screens. The referral source will be provided with weekly progress updates on the participant and a notification of any non-compliance.
